Terry Riley @ MIT!

Fellow Birds,

Minimalist classical composer  will be unveiling a new piece at MIT next Thursday December 15th! You may or may not know this very influential composer, but you have definitely heard of musicians from the same school like Philip Glass, Steve Reich or John Adams.

Terry Riley forms part of the classical composers who went from writing for orchestra to experimenting with the very first technological advances in tape and recording. Along with John Cage, Steve Reich and other classical musicians form the 1940s, Terry Riley pushed the boundaries of music composition and performance that eventually influenced many genres and artists.

Check out the interview below:

And here is a brief explanation found on the event webpage:

“This first-time collaboration – melding world music, jazz, electronics, and the experimental – climaxes with the world premiere of Riley’s amazing new work, White Space Conflict, for gamelan, guitar, keyboard, saxophone, electronics and voice.”

If you are a bird who is into Balinese music, electronic music, experimental music, loops, repeating patterns; dont miss the chance to see a master at work! We know we wont! Make this your break from finals week and experience what will surely be a mind-boggling and exhilarating performance!
