Let’s Go to the Movies!

During these final days of school where we have tons of work to do and tons of material to study, it is healthy to suddenly take small breaks here and there. Here are two cinemas where we recommend you to go and have a nice time with some popcorn and soda: The Coolidge Corner Theatre and The Brattle Theatre.

The Coolidge Corner Theatre

Redesigned as an Art Deco movie palace , The Coolidge Corner Theatre is New England’s most successful independent, not-for-profit cinema. It is located in the heart of Brookline, Massachusetts; and in the recent years it has experienced a kind of renaissance: transforming itself from a down-at-heel but beloved experimental arts venue to a stable, prosperous, and highly valued institution in the community.

Watching  Black Swan by Daren Aronofsky in this theatre has been one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had movie wise. You feel like you go back in time and have an amazing experience. They also have special screenings on certain dates, be sure to check their website for movie schedules and special screenings.

290 Harvard Street, Brookline MA 02446

The Brattle Theatre

The Brattle, as it is known commonly, is the only independent cinema in the city of Cambridge; but still pretty close to Boston! This theatre screens a mix of foreign, arthouse, and “recent rave” films. During Harvard finals, which is about now, there is an ongoing tradition of screening Humphrey Bogart films such as Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon . So be sure to go soon to watch some of these amazing and historically important films!

A few weeks ago I went to see Terrence Malick’s Tree of Life to The Brattle; and I have to say that there wasn’t a better place to enjoy a film like this. The people who goes to this theater usually enjoy watching movies just for the sake of watching movies. I with I could have seen Drive at this place! I know they also show skate video from time to time, if you enjoy watching them be sure to check the website. I saw the Emerica skate video a few semesters ago, and it was amazing!
